ABOUT DAUPHIN WAY

It Started Over 100 Years Ago

Dauphin Way Baptist Church began in 1904 with 21 charter members. In 1909 the church broke ground for its first permanent structure, The Red Brick Church, completed in 1911. Fire destroyed this church in 1935, and homes up and down Dauphin Street were available for the church to continue to meet.

In 1939, Dauphin Way began building a new church which it occupied in November 1942. This structure was eventually expanded to include an entire city block.

In the early 80’s the church voted to move its entire church plant to Dauphin Street and I -65 to a site which was visible, accessible, and in the center of its church membership population. It was completed and dedicated October 9, 1988.

Dauphin Way has had eighteen pastors, three of whom have been president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Its present Pastor, Rev. Clint Pressley, became its 18th pastor in 2004, at the time of the 100th anniversary of its founding. Since Pressley's first Sunday as pastor we have seen God move within this church and as a result, have seen super numerical and spiritual growth.
